Hanover Phist, Inc. offers modern textbooks for pattern making and pattern grading. The designers of these textbooks are professional instructors of pattern making and grading; both manually and on the computer.
Our textbooks are written with the computer generation in mind. The visual style of our textbooks and their relevance to the computer allows today’s students to identify with the information and remember it better. Students enjoy the modern, updated approach to pattern making and grading.
Instructors who use these books comment enthusiastically on how much easier it is to teach pattern making and grading. The graphic style helps the instructor to present the technical aspects of the fashion industry to today’s highly visual students.
The Essentials of Pattern Grading shows students how to grade patterns using easy to follow charts and diagrams. Students can check their work by following the detailed instructions at the end of each chapter. The workbook includes the front and back bodice, the long sleeve, the basic skirt, pants, waistband, cuff and convertible collar. Added diagramed breakdowns in the text include variations in bodices, sleeves, pants and even a jumpsuit.
Fundamentals of Draping & Pattern Drafting takes the student step-by-step through the process of making a perfect basic block. All of the subtle details of draping and truing as well as professional finishing such as notching and markings are carefully explained and illustrated.
Computerization and Students
The fashion industry is now computerized. Hanover Phist, Inc. creates books so they will easily transfer to on-screen grading and pattern making. We believe student comprehension increases when there is a direct correlation between the textbook and the computer screen.
In traditional, old-style books, the student must transfer images from the printed page and turn the image 90 degrees for the computer. This sets up confusion for the student who is learning the process. Hanover Phist, Inc. books are set up so the images match those on the computer screen. This is done by keeping assignments aligned on X and Y axes, with the length grain of the pattern horizontal.
Our books are designed with tabs on the sides so the student can visually navigate through the chapters. They are light, so the student finds it convenient to carry to class. The covers are designed to make the book look interesting and the information fun to learn.
